We are a collective of LGBTQ+ scientists across multiple disciplines at The Georgia Institute of Technology and neighboring institutions. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for aspiring, high school aged, future scientists to come to a FREE event where they can meet LGBTQ+ scientists, try hands-on and interactive demonstrations, and find their passion for in STEM related fields!

Some of our many scientists and engineers:
Dr. Andrew McShan (they/them) is an Assistant Professor in Chemistry and Biochemistry at Georgia Tech and the faculty advisor of Queer Sciences Dr. McShan runs a research lab that focuses on using biochemistry and biophysics to understand how proteins of the immune system function to help develop new drugs against cancer and pathogen infection. In their spare time, they love to partake in spontaneous adventures, make curated Spotify playlists, and play musical instruments.
Cynthia Baseman (they/them) is a PhD student in human-centered computing. They specialize in human computer interaction, designing mobile health systems to address gaps in chronic care and mental health management. They love music, reading (esp. literary fiction and queer horror), and playing games.
Basil Russell-McCorkle (she/they) is a Ph.D student in the Space Exploration Analysis Laboratory. Her research focuses on crater-based navigation for lunar spacecraft and beyond to reduce dependence on classical navigation methods. In her free time, Basil likes going to coffee shops around Atlanta, cooking food for her friends, and making origami.
Dr. Dustin Huard (he/him) is a Research Scientist II in the Lieberman lab in the School of Chemistry & Biochemistry. He is a structural biologist, with an interest in connecting protein structure with (dys)function such as characterizing proteins that are involved in myocilin glaucoma, Gaucher and Parkinson’s diseases, and even novel clathrate binding proteins!
Yun-Feng Lo (he/him) is a PhD student in ECE at GT, doing research in molecular communications, quantum Shannon theory and applied mathematics. He is a foodie and a big fan of musicals and good movies
Max Dabagia (no pronoun preference) is a 5th year PhD student in the Algorithms, Combinatorics, & Optimization program at Georgia Tech, whose research interests are at the interface of neuroscience and computer science. They enjoy music, Wikipedia, and arguing.
Amanda West (she/her) is a PhD student in electrical engineering delving into the intricacies of supercritical carbon dioxide viscosity as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. Amanda is passionate about ensuring minority communities on campus are welcoming for graduate students. When she’s not immersed in her research or cultural clubs, you can find her dancing, biking, or simply enjoying a good song.
Conlain (they/them ) is a PhD candidate in Computational Science and Engineering. Their research focuses on hybrid physics-centric data-driven models for statistical continuum mechanics and materials design. More broadly, they are interested in the intersection of deep learning and traditional numerical methods, as well as decision-making under uncertainty. Outside of research, they love to hike, bike, and cook, and are a proud parent of two beautiful cats.
Special Thanks To Our Founder:
Dr. Julie Johnston (she/they) is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Microbiology and Bioremediation at Hampshire College. She founded the original Queer Science at the University of Minnesota during her PhD, and brought the program to Georgia Tech during her time as a postdoctoral researcher. They live with their adorable husky mix dog Harper and can be spotted in the wild across many coffee shops and bookstores.
